Vice President Vance and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) — two possible 2028 contenders for the White House — traded barbs over the weekend after the Republican took a trip to Disneyland with his family.

Newsom repeatedly took aim at the vice president over the trip, which comes as the Trump administration has deployed the military to the state as part of its immigration crackdown.

“JD is back in California. He won’t take the time to debate and defend gutting our Medicaid system, taking away kids school meals, militarizing America’s streets, or adding trillions to the debt,” Newsom wrote on the social platform X, responding to his post from last month that challenged Vance to a debate.

“Instead, he’s off to Disneyland. Probably to detain Mickey Mouse at this rate,” he continued.

In a separate post earlier that day, Newsom responded to a video of Vance in Disneyland with second lady Usha Vance and their two children.
