Simon Cowell Says His Son Saved Him From a ‘Downward Spiral’

Simon Cowell credits his happiness and priority shift to his son after getting him through a dark period of his life where “nothing mattered.”

Speaking during an episode of “The Diary Of A CEO” podcast, the “America’s Got Talent” judge and producer said becoming a father is what saved him from a “downward spiral.”

The 64-year-old recalled the heartache of losing both of his parents, his mother, Julie, in 2015 and his father, Eric, in 1999.

“I think particularly when I lost my mum, I was on a downward spiral at that point. I lost everyone, you know, I’ve lost my parents. It’s finality now. What I said about the material things I’ve got, everything just meant nothing at that point.”

Mr. Cowell said being “desperately unhappy” is what led him to become so consumed with work, and despite not enjoying his work at the time, it’s what helped him cope with the loss.
