An American Airlines plane arriving at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport aborted its landing and performed a go-around at the direction of air traffic control to avoid close proximity to another aircraft departing from the same runway, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
American Airlines told Newsweek that the maneuver was standard practice and did not pose a safety risk, according to CBS News.
It happened just two hours before plane in Chicago performed a similar maneuver to avoid an aircraft crossing a runway.
What to Know
The incident involving American Flight 2246 from Boston at around 8:20 a.m. Tuesday came less than two hours before a similar event at Chicago's Midway Airport, where a Southwest Airlines plane had to abort landing to avoid another aircraft crossing the runway.
