As Black Lives Matter protests continue to sweep the nation following the death of George Floyd, a black Portland police officer has gone viral for criticizing how supposed racial justice allies treat minority cops.

The video: Officer Jakhary Jackson, a 36-year-old native resident of Portland, slammed protesters during a press conference broadcast by NBC affiliate KGW8 last week.

What he said: In the footage, which was shared widely on social media, Jackson argued that the peaceful aspects of protests have, ironically, been eclipsed by violence and racially charged hatred.

• "I got to see folks that really do want change like the rest of us, that have been impacted by racism, and then I got to see those people get faded out by people that have no idea what racism is all about," Jackson said.
• He added: "They don't even know that the tactics that they are using are the same tactics that were used against my people."
• Jackson also said there are "more minorities on the police side" than "in a violent crowd," adding that he's heard "white people screaming at Black officers, 'You have the biggest nose I've ever seen.'"

George Floyd's May 25 death in Minneapolis sparked public outcry and ignited protests against police brutality in cities across the United States.

• The urban protests turned violent at times, with riots breaking out in the Twin Cities and as far afield as New York and Seattle in late May and early June.
