BREAKING: Republicans lose George Santos’ former seat to Democrats in special election

The special election for ousted Rep George Santos former House seat was held on Tuesday, and the Republicans lost the seat. Democrat Tom Suozzi beat out Republican Mazi Pilip 59 to 41 percent. Republicans still hold a majority, but Democrats have inched one seat closer to control. Suozzi will be up for reelection in November.

New York's 3rd Congressional District will now be controlled by Democrats after the Republicans gave up the seat though Santos has not been tried or convicted on any charges.

Santos slammed his former colleagues in a tweet shortly after the election of Suozzi. Santos was voted to be expelled on December 1, 2023.
